How It Began...
In 2014, Maressa Fairchild adopted Milo, a Lhasa Apso mix, from the Humane Society of Wicomico County in Salisbury, MD and saw just how many wonderful animals there were still left in the shelter. She wanted to help, but didn't know how. With her extensive background in graphic design, website design, and marketing, she decided to put her skills and knowledge to good use.
That was when 2nd Chance Paws, LLC was born. During her years of volunteering at shelters, one thing was apparent. Most of the people, who were running the shelters weren't technically savvy. They needed someone to help them, guide them, train them. They needed someone to design their website for them, design flyers, social media graphics, show them how use social media to market the shelter animals, run better fundraisers, etc. So she created 2nd Chance Paws, a one-stop shop for all animal shelters and rescues in need of design work. She provides affordable graphic and website design, and hosting for those shelters, who can't afford expensive hosting. She created a small number of products to sell ONLINE and a portion of the proceeds is donated to animals shelters. There will be more in the future, but it's a start. She is now helping the shelters design their own products that they can in turn sell themselves, generating more income. She is happy to train any staff member or volunteer on various marketing strategies, using social media, their website and many other avenues to promote these animals, who need a home or medical help.
In the future, there will be more items available to purchase in the store. While she was completing her Bachelors in Visual Arts at West Virginia University, she became friends with many other artists. She thought that there could be a wonderful partnership between these Artists and the shelter animals. The Artists create artwork to sell, which will raise money for the shelters AND they receive a portion of the proceeds as well.
